Thanks for this article, Kim.

Point well made about it being more than just about "WordPress".

Most website owners that I've come across couldn't care less about WordPress, in fact. They just want a website.

I think as insiders, WordPress enthusiasts run the risk of getting carried away by enthusiasm (maybe for good reason, but a risk all the same).

Much of the "outside" world don't know about WordPress. These are mostly the business people that designers and developers are trying to reach.

A concern is that when designers and developers make it "about WordPress", there's the tendency not to listen to the customer/business/website owner.

This then becomes a real risk for the site owner, and costly for everyone involved.

As you've illustrated in your post, providing solutions, and building relationships is critical, and should come first.

The "project", the "website", and eventually "WordPress" can follow.

So true the value is adding something to our client business and not just saying I'll built you website. If we can add extra value and be regarded as experts in more than just web design we can build relationships that will drive business for us through referrals, etc. Interest Kim, I've never came across Hatchbuck and will be giving it a closer look.

Kim, the truth is, it's not even a LITTLE BIT "about WordPress". Clients need solutions, not jargon and product names. (see http://answerguy.com/2013/05/21/everything-influency-marketing/)

Happy days - I've been looking to try out Zaxaa for a while now, and this may be the push that I've needed. Your post may have revolutionised my online set up - thank you!
