Thanks so much for your reply, both of you! This content and discussion will have a lasting impact on me. In fact, it reminds me of a time about two years ago when I went to WordCamp Minneapolis. I was in a day-long earlybird session on the Friday before camp, aimed at designers, and although I was keeping up with the content I felt a little out of my element with the others in the class. Imposter syndrome was creeping in. The people were nice enough and nobody really knew me, so I felt safe to raise my hand and say: “I never really know what to call myself. I make websites for clients, and I put a lot of work into them and do a lot of customization, but I don’t really do much with code other than some very basic css tweaks here and there. Am I a designer?” Michelle Schulp, who was leading the session, replied “Do you have a reason for every choice you’ve made on the page? Every color, every font, every content placement and spacing?” “Yes.” “Then you’re a designer.” Boom. It’s not that I needed permission, exactly, but those words coming from a woman in the WordPress community who is formally trained in design were deeply affecting and have bolstered me ever since. This will too.

She is absolutely worth it.

This comment made my day. There are moments where we all doubt our place in our careers and even recently decided to freelance. It was hard to hear my own advice to call myself an agency. Thank you Julie and Gin. Wow. I love this.

I love this so much Julie! Thanks for taking time out of your Thanksgiving morning to listen and to write this message. I am so happy you got those pearls of wisdom from Bridget out of this. Each one of them is so true and it is awesome that you are going to not just acknowledge it but embrace them! YOU ARE WORTH IT!
