Welcome to another episode of Silence is Golden where we share invaluable tips for your WordPress business.

This week Troy and Simon talk about how to build unstoppable momentum in your business and they will equip you with some awesome strategies to get you on your way.

We also take a look at some articles around this month's theme “Sprint” – the month where you get stuff done and implement everything you have learned from us.

At Agency Mavericks, we rotate the following themes each month:
Grow: sales and marketing
Elevate: which is about the operations of your business
Profit: help with the finance part of your business
Sprint: where you go through your to-do list and get stuff done. But more importantly, finding better habits to look after yourself and your mental health.

Stuff That Happened

Around the 7 minute mark, we talk about the articles for the week.

How Changing Your Mindset Can Give You Your Most Productive Day

This is our key article for this month where Troy uncovers the mindsets that might be holding you back and limiting your business growth. You might not even be aware that you have these mindsets, so this is a must-read if your business is stagnating.

Don’t Let These Bad Habits Destroy Your Freelance Business

When you are your own boss you may form some bad habits that can hurt you both personally and professionally. This article from Speckyboy identifies what can happen and how to fix it.

Interview with Tara Johnson

We interviewed one of our amazing Elevators – Tara Johnson about how she grew her business. She talks about the mindsets that she needed to change in order to grow her business. Check it out for some inspiration.

Let’s Get Unstuck

Around the 14.30 mark, we look at this week’s question which came from Rob:
How do you decide what to start blogging with if you’ve never blogged before? What is a good first blog post? And how many days after should you post another?

Simon's number one tip is to just blog about things that you already know and are comfortable giving advice on. Use this content creation framework that we prepared earlier to help you with the structure of the post.

Don’t try to fit everything into one article if you have a lot of tips, just pick one.

Nervous about your first blog? Don’t over think it and just hit publish. Learn out loud and share what you learn. Make it unique, have an opinion and back it up with facts.

How often? Well, once a week would be fantastic if you have the capacity to do that. Simon says that a good way to do this is to create the content for the month in bulk and then schedule it for the same day each week.

Even if it isn't weekly, be prepared to commit to the posting strategy and stay consistent.

What Made the Wee Come Out?

Around the 19.40 minute mark, we get into our new segment where something excites Troy so much that a little bit of wee comes out.

Troy tells us that he is trying to break up with as much tech as possible and has even taken himself out of Asana so the team can’t assign him tasks. He has been trying to find an alternative to Asana for his to-do list and first discovered WorkFlowy. He likes it, but it doesn’t allow you to add image or screenshots to the tasks.

So he went on the hunt for a new tool and found Dynalist. The founders of this company were actually using WorkFlowy but thought it could have been better and so they created this system. It is basically Outline Software which has levels, bullet points and most importantly for Troy – you can attach images. Happy days!

The Golden Nugget

Around the 27 minute mark, the guys talk about why it's important to build momentum.

Troy says that if you’re not moving forward, your stagnating and humans are hard-wired to grow and be curious.

Being stagnant in your business is like being unfit and sitting on the couch instead of exercising. However, once you are in a routine, it’s easier to get off the couch isn't it? So start by taking those first small steps – put on your shoes and walk out the door.  Once you get the ball rolling, it becomes much easier.

Here are four ways to help you do that:

1. Get Crystal Clear

Know exactly what you want. Write down the exact amount you want to earn and what you will do with that money. Then break it down even more by asking yourself “Whats that going to do for me?”  and “How will I know when I’ve achieved that?”

2. Seek Help

Get some help from someone who has done it before and ask for advice. Another good option is to join a Facebook community.

3. Accountability

According to Troy, people that declare a goal publicly are 83% more likely to reach it so post it on social media! You can also tell someone who will keep you accountable or find an accountability buddy with a similar goal and keep each other in check.

4. Rephrase self-talk

The most important words are the ones that you speak to yourself. So here are some ways to change that inner voice who puts you down and tells you that you can't!

Rephrase “Why didn’t I do this?”  to “What needs to happen in order for me to do this?”

“Why didn't I do this?” looks into the past, so by rephrasing it, you look into the future.

Rephrase “I can’t” to “I don’t” Eg. “I can’t eat this ice cream” to “I don’t eat this ice cream”.

When you say something like “I can’t make business videos on YouTube” is disempowering yourself to perhaps do it in the future. You can even add the word “yet” – “I don’t make business videos on YouTube yet”

Rephrase “I'm nervous” to “I'm about to do something awesome” or “I’m excited”.

Live with intention by writing it down. Troy quotes John C Maxwell, author of “Intentional Living” who says “Intentional people fill their own calendar. They don’t allow others to fill their calendar.” Be sure to blank out spaces for yourself to think, exercise and do that thing you have been putting off.

Tool of the Week

At the 41 minute mark, Troy talks about the book Think and Grow Rich. It's dense but he says that it is “required reading” because it will help you change your mindset and grow your business.

The book is about how the mind can achieve whatever the mind can see and believe. So you have to be able to imagine something first and have raw belief by visualising what it's going to be like when you reach your goal. You can then achieve it because every part of your consciousness goes into overdrive to make it real.
