In Episode #3 of the WP Elevation podcast, I talk to Shayne Sanderson from Maintainn, a WordPress updating and maintenance service about client work, managing WordPress updates, project management, working remotely with the guys at WebDev Studios and how Skype let us down. Oh yeah, and we’re giving away three months of the Maintainn service.
Watch the interview for details on how to enter the competition to win free 3 months of the Maintainn basic plan.
Congratulations Sandra! Shayne Sanderson has chosen you as the lucky winner of the competition! Thanks for your contribution and keep elevating! (October 2013).
Skype really let us down in this interview and after trying GoTo Meeting (fail) we eventually settled on recording a Google Hangout. Sorry the video is a bit funky. You’ll be pleased to know we now have new cables and a much better internet connection for future episodes. Anyhoo, Shayne gives some great insights in this interview about managing client expectations, project management and differentiating yourself from the crowd.
It’s all gold.
Watch the interview for details on how to win three months of his awesome Maintainn service to keep your WordPress site backed up, up to date and secure while you sleep easy.

Great video cast guys.
WordPress maintenance is uber important. If everyone simply updated their installation regularly there would be a lot less hacked sites to clean up after.
Things to put in a future maintenance plan could be broken link checker, checking sitemap files are updated and submitted, checking the server error log for any nasties, uptime monitoring and checking that forms work and submit.
Wil.
Great video. What I am really looking for a a simple way to keep a development site in sync with the live site. Development for clients can be a stop start thing, where 4 months later we develop a new feature, and its always a pain getting the dev site in sync, and running the same versions of the plugins etc.
This is actually something we’re looking into. We’d love to offer a development environment (version control, etc) as part of a package but while also keeping costs down.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Up-time monitoring is something that will be added soon. The idea of sitemaps is good but could get tricky with access to WebmasterTools etc, but is still a great idea. I love the “check server log for nasties” though – that’s my favorite!
Thanks for the suggestions.
Hey Sandra,
Congratulations! Shayne has picked your idea as the winner (sorry Wil).
You’ll get details in an email on how to claim your free 3 months of the Maintainn basic plan.
Now go elevate!
